Building Brighter Futures Through Play
Imagination Playground is a global leader in child-directed, loose part play. We’re passionate about empowering children to explore, imagine, and build their own worlds—whether in schools, museums, libraries, homes, or community spaces.
Imagination Playground was created by award-winning architect, David Rockwell, inspired by watching his own children play. Through his work at Rockwell Group, he envisioned a new kind of playground—one that empowers kids to design, build, and explore on their own terms. In response to the growing need for accessible, creative play, Rockwell introduced a system of portable, loose parts that encourage imagination, collaboration, and movement—anywhere, at any time.

We are helping to build a community—including parents, educators, caregivers, researchers, and leaders—united by a belief in the importance of creative free play to help our children grow up happy and healthy.
Whether you’re a parent, educator, or community leader, we’re here to help you create a play space that’s as inspiring as the children who use it.
“I want to see him using his brain and make sure that he’s moving his body and getting exercise. It’s fun to see him happy—just to see all the kids smiling and laughing and engaged creatively.”
“When I watch my kids play, I’m looking to see them smile. And that’s all I saw today, just big grins. They’ve been running around. They’ve had a great time. At the end of the day, that’s really what’s important.”
“I think that a lot of kids, they just want to watch TV or they want to be told how to be entertained, but here they’re entertaining themselves.”
“I can’t even imagine a school today not having a set of blocks. There’s absolutely nothing I’ve seen that has that kind of return.”
Co-founder of Blue School and Blue Man Group
“The great thing about the blocks is that you don’t have to have a fancy playground for it. The blocks transform any space—a gym, a playground, an asphalt surface—into an Imagination Playground.”
Former Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for New York City
“When I see the kids engage with this and I see them having fun and I see them problem solving, I have to believe that it’s doing something to improve the quality of their thinking.”
